I’ll never forget my first visit to Hickam AFB, back in 1980 or so. The guys who were stationed there told me to take a careful look around at the buildings. I believe it was 9th AF HQ at the time I was there, but I remember one of those buildings still bore the scars of strafing attacks. Trails of pock-marks all up and down the building. Pretty sobering, actually.
I remember my late Father telling me about seeing some still smoking ruins when he arrived at Pearl Harbor in early 1942 with the Army Air Corps.
