Biggest feature of the day was the cross-examination of the second witness, the first victim/accuser, who is anonymous (many at Gab worked out who she is) and is being called Jane. She gave a compelling testimony to AUSA Comey, so the defense had to blow holes in her story. (We all know the defense strategy is to suggest at once that the victims/accusers lie for money, and also that ‘memory of victims can be unreliable after decades’.) Defense attorney Laura Menninger brought a barrage of what seemed to be FBI 302s containing details that did not match her testimony. Jane was not broken and said that these throwaway details were not a match to what she said. The notes were not hers and the deposition was not recorded. She stood her ground and Menninger tried to find a way to elicit doubt, but was again and again stopped by objections, many sustained by the Judge. I think from the 2 live-tweets that I compared, along with other people who were there and wrote about it, that Jane held her own.
Her former boyfriend, presented as Matt, was also very quickly deposed, confirmed Jane’s story, and the defense did not even cross-examine him.
