I usually go to Yuma for a month or so to do volunteer work in San Lois Mexico. Haven't for 2 winters because of "Covid". I always worried that things would get out of hand and the illegals would squat in the numerous winter homes in that area. Thereby taking ownership. Sure looks like that might happen if the Biden and vote scam continues.

DeSantis’s administration, through the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), will issue what is called an “emergency order” blocking the issuance or renewal of state licenses to DCF facilities throughout the state of Florida if any of those facilities are currently housing illegal migrant children — or illegal migrants claiming to be children — that the Biden administration flew into Florida.
DeSantis will appear in Jacksonville on Friday morning at a press conference to announce the new order as well, and the governor’s office conveyed to Breitbart News just how significant of a development this policy represents.
“The mission of the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is to protect the health, safety, and well-being of Floridians, especially children,” DeSantis spokeswoman Christina Pushaw told Breitbart News on Thursday evening. “To this end, DCF licenses facilities that house children whose families are unable to care for them. As a state agency, DCF serves the people of Florida. Diverting resources away from kids in need in Florida, to illegal aliens being smuggled here by the Biden Administration for clandestine resettlement, does not serve the people of our state. Under the new emergency rule, the federal government’s resettlement of illegal aliens (unaccompanied minors) from outside Florida does not constitute ‘evidence of need’ as required for issuance or renewal of a state license for a child-care facility. Therefore, no licenses shall be issued or renewed with respect to any child-care agency that provides services to illegal aliens transported to Florida from outside our state.”

My BIL and SIL are among those who have a very nice winter home in Yuma and they have been concerned.
Fortunately, they have good neighbors sort of on the order of
nosy neighbor from Bewitched, Gladys Kravitz.
They have a watering system set up and 2 years in a row the neighbor found it malfunctioning and fixed it to their thankfulness or all outside plants would be dead.

Maybe, the director of his previous IL/AL/MC left and a nurse is running the whole facility now. I am sure she is a great nurse, but she is not good at management. Everything has gone south there since she took over. We have been over there almost every day for the past several months.
One frustrating thing is the flood happened in the Assisted living wing. So they moved the Assisted Living folks down to Memory Care and moved the Memory care to other facilities. That makes no sense to me. The MC people have dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, etc., and any kind of move or change really throws them into a tailspin.
We talked about bringing him here, but decided against it, because change is scary for him. Even trips to the doctor or visits here make him confused and upset. He doesn’t know who we are, he doesn’t remember our home, his kids, his grandkids. He wanders and we don’t have the setup to keep him safe, he can’t maneuver stairs anymore so there’s no way to help him with toileting or bathing. Because I have the farm to take care of, I’d have to hire someone to watch him 24/7... So we are going over there instead. It’s hard to explain if you haven’t had a loved one with advanced dementia. I have taken care of my MIL with cancer and my mom with ALS (both required full care with lifts/wheelchairs, etc) but their minds were still there, this is a very different situation, sadly.

It was awful yesterday, there was a lot of crying, wandering, complete disorientation ... and they were severely understaffed.
A lot of us who had loved ones moved there have exchanged phone numbers - we are checking on each other’s loved ones when we go over and making sure their needs are met.
Just got back from visiting today - it was better/calmer, there is a common area there and my FIL was chatting with some of his friends from the old facility. They also had 2 staffers from the old facility that the residents know, and that was calming as well.
I don’t understand not accepting help from others - like my church. They have serve teams of 20-30 people ready at a moment’s notice for things just like this and the church is right next door to the facility!

Needless to say, the vote for the bill was unanimous.
