I am of that generation. When I was growing up, it was considered dishonorable and unmanly for a man to strike a woman, even if she was the aggressor (such as in a domestic situation).
But it was also a time when women tended to be more ladylike in general, which prompted men to be more chivalrous and protective of them. A woman being threatened on a city street in say, 1975, would immediately have a dozen men come to her rescue. These days, a lot of men would just keep walking and pretend not to notice. Maybe that's a reflection on their manhood or maybe they are so jaded that they figure the woman deserves what is coming to her.
Back then, it was unheard of for a woman to engage in road rage, give a strange man the finger or get in their faces like many of them do today. Nowadays, many of them do it with impunity.
You are correct in warning your daughter of the dangers of enraging a stranger such as in a road rage incident. Unless she is willing to fight and defend herself - which I don't recommend - she should keep her eyes straight ahead and mind her own business. Even as a man, I will not escalate a potential road rage situation as you have no idea who you are dealing with. Much better to get out of the way, let the person go around you, and avoid eye contact.
When men are the aggressor and their adrenaline is pumping a woman no matter how skilled is in danger. Woke fools may not want to hear this, but a testosterone loaded, adrenaline drive man will beat a woman's ass nearly every time. Those few rare occasions when a woman kicks a man's ass makes the headlines, but they are rare.
Road rage is one of those things it is best to avoid for men and women. There are so many unknown variables. Around here we do not see a lot of road rage, but go to some of the larger cities in the State and the Karen's are everywhere.
