I have always viewed the heated competition between Langley and the Wright Brothers as the epitome of an example of why private industry will always demolish government in a fair fight.
People working with their own money and time (as opposed to those who will get their money from the government to do something, no matter the fashion it is to be wasted) will always achieve a better, more efficient outcome.
I admire the Wright Brothers greatly.

Indeed. that is a classic example of a well-funded government bureaucracy being bested by a couple of bike mechanics.
