We had an “ice box” when I was growing up. I tried to explain this to my grand kids one day. They couldn’t understand. They still think we used an igloo cooler.
One of my elderly Aunts had an ice box and when we visited I got the job of going to the store to buy a block of ice (this was mid-1960s and home delivery of ice had long gone).

I still have the ice tongs my dad used to transport the block of ice from the ice house to our house. I still call convenience stores ice houses.Old habits die hard.

We had a wood stove. Also had an electric stove , but it was rarely used.
