:^) By 'our favorite Mongo' I guess you mean Alex Karras in Blazing Saddles. I worked with him once or twice on Monday Night Football, along with Frank Gifford and Howard Cosell. A very funny guy! . . . He died in 2012; maybe you are thinking of someone else.
