Then two gender-neutral awards are Artist of the Year and International Artist of the Year.
I find that very judgmental of them. Suppose an “artist” is placed in one category, but self-identifies as a member of the other category?
To avoid this embarrassing problem, I suggest one category only, Artist. And give everyone eligible the same award. Then nobody gets upset.

And that’s all the prize Olympics are about: creating buzz to spark conversation and build interest in films. The most important thing about the Oscars, for example, is not who actually wins them. The most important thing is to set up an ongoing argument among film buffs about the nominations: e.g. who is overdue, who was slighted, who should win and — the perennial favorite — how the Academy blew it again this year. The argument is the thing, not the actual winner. When an advertising gimmick starts attacking the rationale for its own existence, the tail is truly wagging the dog.
