Is abundant low carbon energy within reach?

The Statist Left will be opposed to this. It's not really carbon they are concerned about. They are concerned about cheap energy which brings prosperity which in turn brings about self sufficiency and personal freedom. And the left wing statists hate that.

The problem is not really about carbon. The problem is that there is not a good way to control people and control of the means of production offers a great way of indirectly controlling all of society. A good form of low carbon energy will result in a search for ways to demonize it. It would be a great thing, but it won’t change the political attempt to shut the economy down.

The “breakthroughs” (different ones) have been announced steadily for over a decade, and still no practical fusion energy near to marketability.

It’s become like the “breaking” “news” reports that are so often just fizzles.

The “breakthrough” press releases tend to come out around the time applications for research grant renewal are sent in.

You are absolutely right!!

Exactly correct: If this technology comes to fruition they will find some other environmental reason we can't use it.

It's shocking how many conservatives don't understand that wind and solar are NOTHING but a commie plot designed to make electricity scarce and expensive and it does both very well. Both are far more harmful to the environment than even the dirtiest coal plants.

Of course. It’s a game everyone in science looking for grants plays.

Over 2015–2019, Google funded 30 researchers on three projects and found no evidence that LENR is possible,
***That is not true at all. What they found was that calorimetry is surprisingly difficult to do.

For massive amounts of cheap baseload energy, fusion is the way to go. Once you get fusion working, the resources of solar system and beyond opens up. A good Youtube channel that gives you an idea of what could be is Isaac Arthur’s (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZFipeZtQM5CKUjx6grh54g).

The environmentalist keep banging on about how we’d need X number of Earth’s if people lived like an average American/Australian/European/etc... Well, guess what? The solar system has the resources to have 100’s of trillions or more of people with a living standard better than now.

“With fusion...any malfunction would result in a rapid shutdown of the plant.”

So, lots of downtime, then. Probably expensive to restart, too.

If they get it to work, all the rest of it will be secondary. Fusion energy density is something like 20,000times higher than carbon based fuels. “1 gram of fusion fuel corresponds to that of 12 tonnes of coal.”

If LENR breaks out, the statist left will have nothing to say because poor countries will be able to gain energy independence and they don’t GAFF what lefties have to say.

If they do find a way to make it work, it will then de demonized as “dangerous”, or something.

Once there’s a fusion breakthrough, there’s no putting that genie back in the bottle. Poor countries will replicate and then generate their own solutions.

There may come a day when we can do fusion, but I don’t think we will be able to sustain it very long, because of the energy requirements to get it going.
