Marillion (With Friends From The Orchestra) - “Estonia”

Posted on 11/08/2021 4:01:37 PM PST by CrimsonTidegirl

I just discovered this beautiful song by the band “Marillion”. The song is about the tragic, overlooked sinking of the MS Estonia in 1994. Eight Hundred and Fifty Two people perished.

TOPICS: Miscellaneous; Music/Entertainment
KEYWORDS: estonia; marillion
Hope you enjoy the song.

You should also check out their songs “Lavender”, and especially “Neverland”.

They’ve made some pretty good stuff.

Wow. Sounds like multiple screw ups contributed to the disaster, A sad tragedy

I don't remember it at all, but I was a pretty busy person back in those days. Nice song.

Indeed, that’s also from their album “Misplaced Childhood”. A friend of mine had a copy in college, and while he was more into the depressing alternative don’t tune your instruments stuff, this one stuck with me, and I eventually picked up the CD.

Wow! One of my favorite bands during college (‘84-‘88). Thanks for posting!

Thanks.

Yes, a completely preventable tragedy.

Thanks for the recommendations. I’m new to the band.

I’m in a Prog rabbit hole and this song appeared in my recommendations.

Well, in that case, I’m sure you’re aware of the usual Kansas, Yes, Rush, Alan Parsons, etc. Here’s a few others you can look into:

Dream Theater
Kamelot
Nightwish
Kerry Livgren / A.D. (Jesus Prog)
Anderson/Stolt
King Crimson
Saga

and many others. Hmm. I’ve probably forgotten a few, but oh well, hope you find some stuff you enjoy.

Pretty much lost me after Fish left. Fish’s first few solo albums were really good.

And check out the song he did with Genesis’ Tony Banks, “Another Murder of a Day”.

I’m a Nightwish and King Crimson fanatic. Floor Jansen is otherworldly.

You can guess what my favorite King Crimson song is by reading my tag line:)

I’ve heard a few songs from Dream Theater and Kamelot. What I’ve heard, I like.

The only Saga I’ve heard is “On The Loose”. I didn’t know they were Prog. I’ll have to listen to more of their material.

Thanks for the suggestions.
