Egypt is an amazing place to visit!
I toured twice in the 90’s and would love to go back!

Hey, I’m a little jealous, pretty sure I’ll never get there.
I know a couple of FReepers who’ve managed rare experiences in Egypt — one got to lie down in Khufu’s sarco and get his picture taken, the other spent the night ON TOP of the Great Pyramid, and wound up in an episode of In Search Of. And met Nimoy I think.

I was assigned to the UN Truce Supervisors in the Sinai from 1988-9 and lived in Heliopolis for that year. Spent every minute of it learning and seeing as much as I could. My favorite spot was Medinet Habu in Luxor. All of the temple carvings still had their original vivid colors and very few tourists managed to find it.
The Sinai still had vast fields of war wreckage from '56 and '67 and '73 as well as Roman and Egyptian ruins.
I know that were supposed to be patrolling to prevent future fighting - but the dang place was too fascinating!
