I own one of the very first Trek mountain bikes made.

In the Fall of 1982 Trek sent display model mountain bikes to select stores as a promotion for the MB line that would come out in the spring. They were not to be sold to the public.

My campus bike shop recieved one. I went in there on a Sunday and saw it and bought it for the suggested retail price. Paid $378 for it. The student sales person did not know it was not to be sold.

On Monday the bike shop owner called me and said it was not to have been sold and if I returned it he would sell me one for cost when it came out.

I was getting huge attention and fell in love with it from it so I kept it.

It has many handmade features and a pre production serial number.
I posted pics of it on a bicycle collectors forum a few years back and numerous people wanted to buy it for quite a sum of money.

I was told there are only a handful left.

I lost the original sales receipt from multiple moves over the years.

Thanks for sharing about your great bike.
I was riding through the woods on my hybrid and rolled over a tree stump I saw at the last moment.
Good thing I had my front shocks unlocked.
