I posted on FR around 10 years ago on a Kennedy assassination thread that I had dinner back in the 1980's with David Lifton, the author of the book on the Kennedy assassination, "Best Evidence". Prior to his after-dinner talk I had no interest in the Kennedy assassination or any of the conspiracy theories.

Lifton made the very compelling case that LBJ orchestrated the assassination and cited the evidence behind it. He also made the point that conspirators were very sloppy and among other things hadn't counted on the Zapruder film which contradicted the official story. I won’t go into any detail since entire books have been written on the subject.

What’s interesting is that the historical contrarians like Lifton are the mathematical/scientific sorts. Lifton is a physicist and mathematician. A very convincing read on the true author of Shakespeare’s works is by an astrophysicist. Robert Shoch is a PhD geophysicist who has demonstrated the Sphinx is much older than the conventional wisdom of Egyptology.
