Oswald was scored as a marksman over a shooting while in the marines at 200 yards over open sights. The shot in Dallas was about 70 yards.
And we know that because the Government said so? Hmmm.
Everyone talked about the cheap Carcano rifle
and they certainly were cheap at that time.
They were however used by the Italian Olympic team
so some them were probably very good.
A rifle sighted at 100 yds will only be an 1/2inch or less
out of line at 50 yds and dead on again at 20 yds.
70 yds with a scope? Certainly doable.
Then again, I’m no sniper, I am a former Marine though.
There was a TV program about 12 or so years ago in which the shooting was reconstructed using dummies placed exactly as they were at that time, ammo from the same lot as used by Oswald, and an Italian Carcano rifle.
The bullets traveled exactly as the reports said they did, and whent through the Kennedy dummy, hit and bounced around Conally exactly as they did.
