Belief that we got here through natural selection was the basis a century and a half ago for "scientific racism".

Basically, while the Christian abolitionist movement was growing in numbers and sympathy, atheists and some Christians used natural selection as a way of justifying why blacks should stay as slaves. Even after abolition the argument still pressed on as the former abolitionists were pushing for blacks to have equal rights (while the Darwinists pushed for blacks to be kept in their place, so to speak).

Even as recently as the civil rights movement to end segregation was more of the same ol argument of if blacks were created by God or if blacks evolved as a lesser evolved species.

We should all be glad the creationists won the arguments for freedom for everybody.

Have to look at this more. Some ancestors were abolitionists and had a station on the Underground Railroad. Detroit, jump off to Windsor, Canada
