“Arrival” is one of the best SF first-contact films ever made IMHO.

Yes, it was well done and the concept is beyond imagination.

As you may know, "Arrival" was based on Ted Chiang's short story "The Story of Your Life".

I agree it is a wonderful movie, and my only bone to pick with the movie is that they changed the title from Ted's short story.

Because--(imho)--the story is meant to be the story of _everyone's_ life--the true "aha" moment is when the reader/viewer figures that out....

A couple of hints:

We think time is linear in our lives, but in fact a bit of reflection (hopefully helped by the story/movie) shows you that your life is not just what you do but what you think about. You think about the past, the future, what could have been, and what could be. Your thoughts are as much a part of "your life" as your actions...

But it gets better:

Words or a movie are a form of communication. They speak to us about what could have been or could be in the future. They are about "imaginary" worlds that become real if they affect your thoughts--which remember are a part of your life.

Brilliant, wonderful stuff--deep wisdom there.
