He pointed a loaded gun at a person and pulled the trigger. You don’t do that with an unloaded gun if you have a functioning brain.
He didn’t check the gun himself. Takes two seconds. Blanks are obvious upon casual visual inspection.

If he eventually gets restrained by some means it will be a blessing for all.
