I despise Alec Baldwin, but actors are not qualified to be firearm prop masters on the sets where they are filming. That is supposed to be under the control of a specially trained person who is responsible to ensure that the gun is properly set for the intended use.
In this case, because it was on set, the blame lies with the prop master and his staff, not the actor, unless the actor substituted live rounds for the intended blanks.
The actor is ultimately responsible, even with prop guns there are safety requirements. I suspect Alec is too big a star to be concerned with taking the time to be safe.
I don’t know, but I thought prop guns were designed to fire blanks but not real ammo. Also, the gasses from a blank could wound or kill someone at close range.
That leads me to a question. Could blank rounds be made at some odd size that could not chamber in a real gun, and for the same reason a prop gun could be designed to chamber an odd sized blank but not real ammo. So instead of 9mm blanks, the blanks could be slightly smaller and shorter. Then a prop gun that looks like a 9mm gun would really be chambered too narrow and short to accept real 9mm ammo but it would accept blanks. That would add a safety factor.
Exactly. But all these know-it-all’s won’t ever get the point.

Exactly right. No one here knows any of the facts of the shooting but are attributing nothing but bad motives to Baldwin. The guy is a jerk, but innocent mistakes happen to jerks too. Instead of convicting and sentencing the guy without all the facts, why don’t we see how this unfolds as the FACTS come out? I know, that’s a lot to ask considering the current level of maturity on FR, but I can dream, can’t I?
One way to find out is to check for fingerprints on the spent cartridge.

I don’t buy that. Its a toddlers attitude with a gun abusing it and thinking its a toy. Hollywood is the #1 abuser of guns and then blames society on gun abuse. You can never ever assume any gun is not loaded, and you only point to kill. Remember this idiot is playing to the camera. The camera cant see what you are pointing to. Baldwin pointed at both people and pulled the trigger. Its on him.
