I have a slightly different approach. I have about 6-8 months worth of sick time built up over 19 years. We lose all of that benefit when we leave/retire. Although I won’t be able to take all of it, I do intend to be sick here and there. I’ll align it the best that I can to avoid any additional burden on my coworkers, but someone will have to fill my shifts when I’m not there.
