It still wears the uniform and rates a salute from inferior ranks.

That might be a problem for the uniformed PHS members entering and leaving headquarters but I doubt that will be more than a hundred or so members. The Naval services don't salute indoors or uncovered. They still know that while this SOS may rate a salute, it didn't earn it. IT knows it too.

I only ever met ONE uniformed PHS officer, nurse, and that was 15 years AFTER I retired. I did spot a uniformed NOAA Lt in the Exchange at Langley one day. Never saw another one.

My friend was one (PHS) for CV purposes. I did not go for it. He had to shell out big bucks for the uniform and got his pic in it.

We laughed.
