I think it’s more like every 27,000 years, that the magnetic field reverses.

If the magnetic field is caused by the difference in rotation of the earths core and the surface crust, then those rotations must reverse for the magnetic field to reverse.

So, why on earth would the crust be moving at a different rate than the core? There is no friction in space. And why would it reverse?

My theory is that the earth surface was hit by meteors and shifted - the ‘elasticity’ of the magna makes them oscillate back and forth like a spring door, with an oscillation period of 27,000 years

The FAA is currently re-numbering runways to account for magnetic north.
