Docents? They are going to fire “volunteers”? I am not sure about all the AI docents, but those I have worked with in other art museums, and I was one for a while, are volunteers. They are dedicated, responsible adults, who are knowledgeable in their fields. Art museums and galleries are just one institution that benefits from the spirit of volunteerism. Botanical Gardens, Zoos, Historical Societies, specialty collections often have volunteer docents as willing help with educating the public.
This will end a long tradition of public involvement in education at The Art Institute. The politically tainted management seems not to care about art, why should anyone else?
This is all in the name of “Diversity”? They have plenty of division and strife now in Chicago, a town with both a Diversey Ave, and a Division Street. Why not worry about the art itself, and ban all the over-represented Western culture artists and works they currently have? Why? Because that is next. This is a culture war against sanity, after all.
I read in a report from Chicago that ALL of the fired Docents were unpaid volunteers.
