My sister had a Land Rover a few years ago and the Check Engine and trouble lights came on a LOT. She’d take it in to the dealer immediately. They’d say, “oh, it doesn’t mean anything”, and then turn off the light. That would be it.
Just run it till it knocks ladies, then flag a man down and tell him all your troubles!
My wife calls it the “Trade Engine”light
I have an old Dodge van, I took the dash apart and broke the little light bulb so now no problem
LOL!
Then you would need a whole panel of lights. Maybe a central panel the passenger can see as well, a “Master Caution” light to get your attention, and an instrument rating to drive :’)
“I hate the whole concept of the check engine light. It could be anything from a shot engine to a loose gas cap. Did anyone consider, in this day and age, that maybe more nuanced lights could show up on your dashboard?”
