Regarding ships and such in California, I was reading on twitter about a couple of California laws that are making it very difficult for the trucking industry to even operate in the state.

In particular, a California truck ban that says all trucks must be 2011 or newer, as well as a new law which prohibits owner operators (union protectionism?). If that’s the case, then I can see that being a big factor in the delay of the unloading of ships also,.

You might be right about the need to check/inspect each container in some way, for human trafficking as well as dirty bombs or other contraband.

Not sure about that, but the hot new port for all the Chinese stuff is in British Columbia. The logistics lady at work was ready a couple years ago to tell the port at Long Beach to stick it (sideways), and it hasn't improved.

From what I’ve read, all US ports are backed up. Container ships all over the place. Not just CA. People in the industry say that it has several reasons, all covid related. Lockdowns, firings, people not working, supply chains all over the world are messed up. I can find sauce if I have time.
