I looked up La Palma and saw that it has had many eruptions, one lasted for more than 80 days.


There’ve been I think 8 eruptions since the Spaniards began making records of them. But if you go on Google Earth and look at the island closely, you see all sorts of old volcanic cones. Most are on the topmost ridge, but there are ones lower down, and near the edges as well. They look sorta like anthills from the sky. ;) A lot are greened over with vegetation, and a lot aren’t.

Heck, the view from my seaside apartment on Tenerife included a finger of lava protruding into the ocean just to the south which had an old cone sitting on it. They’re everywhere!

Like the Big Island. And there are areas of Oregon that have all kinds of pretty recent lava flows, looks very like the B.I. Of course La Palma has the explosive kind; Hawaii has mostly the shield kind.
