Ok. I’m reasonable and I differ. Shooting someone in the head demonstrates clear intent to kill them. Instead of dying as the shooter intended, his victim will almost certainly be mentally and physically diminished for the rest of her “life”, with every hope and dream ruined — that’s if she is lucky enough not to be a vegetable on a breathing machine. She will almost assuredly die much sooner than she would have.

Please explain why you feel would-be thieves and murderers, unsuccessful just by chance or lack of skill, deserve leniency?

If it is reasonable and justified for the victim to resist with deadly force, then maybe execution should be on the table.

I doubt this is the first felony for either of the perps. I would go for, after the second felony, looking at ALL their crimes, including juvenile, and letting a jury decide if they really want them around.
