Because the ‘crime’ happened in a National Park, therefore its a Federal Crime.

Well the crime this man has been charged with is unauthorized use of a debit card. I didn't know they had ATMs in national parks. If it was his money in the account, or she authorized him to use the card, it will be hard to convict him of this, but it's all they got on him at this point.

ATM’s are everywhere in National Parks. Every concession stand seems to have one.
To be accurate the murder apparently happened in a National Forest not a Park. Still Federal lands.
