As a CPA i can confirm the IRS is in a shambles. I was told yesterday they are at least a month behind in opening mail, at least another month behind in addressing whatever issues are in that mail. Every agent Ive worked with this year is working remote. My belief is that even tho the push was on for everyone to file online, they arent set up to handle the remote work set up, plus a workload that still involves alot of manual key in of data. And if you call them, if you dont call within a half hour of them opening (8am) you will get a message that they are full and you should call another day.
Sent my 2021 1040 to IRS May 15 along with a payment and the form to defer the rest owed for 90 days, payment was deposited 30 days later.
Called IRS last week and they confirmed they got my 1040 but haven't processed it yet. They suggested I pay what's owed now but I replied I'll wait until I hear from IRS on my deferment request. He said fine. LOL!
IRS IS in shambles. I mailed my 2020 Fed Return on 2/17. I waited until the end of March and went on “Where’s My Refund”. It stated that my return had been received and was in the review stage. I checked again at the end of April and it stated that “we have no information on your return” and it’s never changed from that (I checked yesterday). I read somewhere that there are over 8 million paper returns packed in trucks in their parking lot. BTW - I never received my $600 stimulus check that was approved in January; however, I did receive the $1200 when it was approved during the summer.
