if you take the deaths and divide by hospitalizations I think it’s 1.6% down from 1.8% - in the US. If the hospitalizations are inflated as some think, it wouldn’t change the death number so that would make the IFR higher. Seasonal flu is 0.06=0.08%.
nothing hysterical, just a guy who got sick, got treated, saw an ICU ward up close and changed his mind about his beliefs. Doesn’t make him a bad person. Just a person making his own choices.
Not a bad person, but not someone who thinks logically either. As a result, I am generally not moved at all by these stories. They don’t convey any useful information that isn’t already known from looking at the data.
Re: “Seasonal flu is 0.06% - 0.08%”
Not sure what that rate is, but it is impossible to compare influenza and COVID fatality rates.
The CDC does not count them the same way...
COVID + Pneumonia or ARDS death = 100% COVID deaths
Flu + Pneumonia or ARDS death = 10%-20% Flu deaths
About 55% of all COVID deaths involve pneumonia or ARDS, so this is not a trivial number.
