If ever there was a show that demystifies the life of the mob, it was The Sopranos. The fantasies and pretentions of the mobsters, interspersed with unflinching displays of their utterly base, evil behaviors behind the scenes of their schizoid "happy family" lives, served to demonstrate how ultimately ridiculous their cult has devolved to in the 21st century.

It was a slowly unfolding series of tragedies, in which marginally sympathetic characters pique the viewer's interest, even make them laugh—only to squander and then bankrupt what remains of their humanity, one banal decision at a time.

That has to be the best description of The Sopranos that I’ve seen.
