Pine Barrens was my least favorite episode because the scene with the shivering and grubby Paulie and Chris eating ketchup packets in the car completely grossed me out.
“Is that any different than fans of Rocky Horror Picture Show showing up in fishnet stockings?”
Been there, done that.
Yo, dollface. How else you gonna know what’s goin on?
The first season was pretty good - then it sucked for a long time. “Pine Barrons” got everyone’s hopes up that the writers were going to go back to writing good shows.
I think what happens with theses series is that the actors get cocky and negotiate themselves more of a role in the writing and directing - which is clearly NOT their forte.
That, and possibly also what I call the “Steven King effect”, where the writers get bored and lose interest. All his books started out good - lots of tension, mystery and interesting character development - but near the end he is just going through the motions - tying up loose ends so he can be done with it.
Those were Motown days. Black music that crossed over and was adored by white audiences, helping the racial civil rights movement make its way along. Wonderful music. Hope the movie utilizes the right musical era. The music score can make or break a movie.
I loved the episode when Tony tried to back out of buying a house at the shore when his marriage broke up, and the obnoxious lawyer who owned it (and whose shore house was next door) played hardball, insulted Tony, and didn't want to let him out of the deal. Loved the "solution" Tony and his guys came up with.
When she inserted herself into Carmela's life and tried to sell her a car, it was like "bunny boiler" all over again.
In terms of character development, I thought the Russian gal was interesting. "Tonyi," she would say...
Yes, but was it one of several good episodes, or was it one of the fifty-or-so unwatchable episodes featuring Tony’s ugly sister, or one of the countless beyond-boing episodes featuring the crime boss spilling the beans to a female shrink?
Yes. The sister almost singlehandedly ruined the whole series for me. Awful character. I was also hoping the shrink would break bad and tell Tony about the rape.
I don’t think that’s a good comparison.
She called the house to talk to Carmela, she wanted to be caught, as I recall Dr. Melfi speculated she wanted Ton’ to beat her up or kill her, and indeed she seemed to want to die when he was choking her. Serious issues that broad.
I had forgotten that part. Even hookers can fall in love and then get desperate. But considering her background, it was a struggle for her just to survive. Guess I’d better watch the whole thing again!
I got to the end again. I had forget about Sarah Shahi who Ton’ does shrooms with. 3/4 Persian 1/4 Spanish.
As for Charmaine, I’d rub her muzzle.
Can’t wait to go to the opening tomorrow afternoon..
And yes, Charmaine is definitely a fan favorite.
HBO Max for me. I’ll try to resist doing so at 2AM when it drops. ;-D
I think it will be interesting to see how well they “retrofit” the psychological development of the characters—now that many fans have watched the series again, they will look for excellence as well as slip-ups in continuity in the portrayals of Tony, Paulie, Silvio, Pussy, Junior and Livia, etc.
There’s already a continuity error with Ton’s and Chrissy ages in relation to each other, but that was raised in the series. Tony being old enough to be mentored by Dicky but young enough to make fun of Chris on uncle Pat’s farm never made sense.
Just saw it. Rather disappointing.
Saw it last night. One big “meh!”
Mostly nothing happens, and the main focus actually seems to be the civil rights movement. Of course they went woke. To expect anything else these days is a fool’s errand.
