Vanilla, like chocolate and avocados, is native to what is today Mexico.

Most of us have rarely tasted real vanilla - the artificial stuff is close to the natural stuff for most noses. I suppose these guys think that someone will pay $$$ for the real stuff.
Same with Wasabi we eat at Japanese restaurants - we get mostly horseradish with food coloring. The real stuff is really good but super $$$.

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, it’s miraculous what the Israelis have coaxed from that wretched little scrap of land. I suspect it excites their neighbors’ envy.

Madagascar, the worlds largest grower and exporter, has an average IQ in the lowest quartile of the world.
I am sure that Israelis can easily figure out the process.

Given a chance, their neighbors would burn it all to the ground.

They’ve already done so! Remember when the Israelis were obliged to pull out of an area they had settled and turn it back to the Palestinians? They made sure that their elaborate growing operations — greenhouses and such — were in perfect working order and left instructions to keep them running smoothly and profitably. The Palestinians immediately looted everything they could carry off and wrecked the rest.

Temps are probably right. But with this crop you have to create Wet or Dry seasons even if artificially. And they only bloom one day in a year. And they have to be pollinated within a 12 hour window on that one day a year.
