An attorney for Brian Laundrie’s family abruptly canceled a press conference scheduled for Tuesday – as authorities ramp up a criminal probe of the likely death of Laundrie’s girlfriend, Gabby Petito.
“As per my conversation with the FBI this evening there will be no press conference tomorrow,” attorney Steven Bertolino told The Post.
But Bertolino said it was “not true” that the FBI had advised him to cancel.
“Just not in my clients’ best interest,” he wrote in a text message.
The press conference would have been held on the same day of the autopsy on female human remains found in Wyoming that authorities believe is Petito, 22.

Absolutely no reason for them to give a press conference. None.
Other than the lawyer wanting national coverage for marketing purposes. But even he realized he had no material to work with.
” But this Convicted-before-trial behavior is bullshit. Stop doing it.”
The courts (government) are required to consider people innocent until proven guilty. We, individuals, are not.
He’s guilty and his parents appear to be complicit with the cover up/escape.
I’ve thought since it was first reported by Brian’s parents that him being lost in that park was a diversion to keep the authorities from searching elsewhere for him.
It looks to me like the end of the road for Brian is death or a lengthy prison sentence. His parents might be in denial that those are the only options, or they might think they can delay it. Of course, the autopsy results will have an impact on the available options.
Interesting that the Laundrie family chose a Long Island NY attorney.
Steven Bertolino, East Islip
With the Laundries attitude and behavior as well as being from NY...kind of getting a witness protection vibe there....with a sense of humor.
Keeping the boy clothed, housed and fed in another country combined with what I’m sure will be a healthy attorney bill and, public negativity and a loss of income will convince Mum & Daddy that Jr. nice as he is a liability that transcends the bonds of parenthood.
To get him out of the country might protect from extradition but sooner or later one needs to shop for groceries. Easy enough to find out where Dads money is being transferred to. Only rich people can do that for long.
Regardless unless he has a documented medical history I think it would be difficult for an insanity defense, if he is found in another country even more so. Unless he is good at B&E and has a support network maybe a uncle or something he will turn up fairly soon with the FBI turning up the screws on the parents, would be motivational for the FBI agent that gets to take him down. I doubt seriously that Dad is going to want to spend time in the slammer in an effort to protect his kid from being charged with murder. It’s not like he stole a car. My guess one or the other parent will spill the beans.
I read that the attorney is a family friend. They’re from NY.
Yes but....a NY lawyer from Long Island isn’t up to speed on Florida or Wyoming laws.
And Wyoming appears at this time to be the scene of her her demise thus having jurisdiction...
His parents, if aware that he is a killer, did a major injustice by not turning him in.
The article also said he was doing this as a favor, no fee. I suspect it got more complicated than he expected.
Dirty Laundrie.
Bam! Knew he’d cancel it.
If he ends up dead, they only have themselves to blame.
“If one of the 5 voices in his head told him she was the devil woman out to get him he might get sent to the cookie farm.”
The voices aren’t always wrong.
IMO, he’s looking at the office like how dare the cops come to his house.
I would have to think the parents were also aware of this mental issue, I wonder if they sought help for him or ignored the time bomb.
1) He’s made an alligator very happy with a full belly
2) He’s sipping umbrella drinks on a beach in some non-extradition country on daddy’s dime.
The lawyer is hated by many who are following the case so he just dumped on his client list. He’s given the family very bad advice. Not many will be wanting his services after this fiasco.
So you think abuse and murder are indicated? Really?
911 audio captured a caller in Utah reporting a domestic abuse incident that claimed Laundrie slapped Petito.
They just drove off. They're going towards Main Street. They made a right onto Main Street from Moonflower. We drove by him, a gentleman was slapping the girl,' the man continues.
'He was slapping her?' the sheriff asks.
'Yes.
A National Park Service ranger who responded to a domestic incident between Brian Laundrie and Gabby Petito in Utah last month warned the woman that her relationship with Laundrie seemed “toxic.”
“I was probably more candid with her than I should’ve been,” Melissa Hulls, the visitor and resource protection supervisor at Arches National Park, told the Deseret News in an interview about her conversation with Petito on Aug. 12.
Police responded after a 911 caller reported seeing a man “slapping” a woman in the face, according to new audio obtained from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office.
The audio contradicts a police report that portrayed Petito as the aggressor, stating at one point she “began slapping” him after he told her to take a walk to calm down.
Gabby Petito warned by Utah park ranger that relationship with Brian Laundrie seemed ‘toxic’
It was revealed that the cop who wrote the report is married to a woman who takes meds for anxiety attacks. The report also falsely states that Laundrie had a swollen eye when he had a scratch.
