L.A. Times reports the General Sherman tree is safe thus far from fire.
The world’s largest tree has been wrapped in foil to protect it against flames from a fire raging in California’s scenic Sequoia National Park.
The base of the General Sherman Tree has been wrapped in aluminum-based burn-resistant material, according to Sequoia and Kings National Parks.

Why yes it has, by God. The bark doesn't burn, just chars. Had a piece in a fire of eucalyptus wood all night in the hottest place, next day the coal came off just by slightly rubbing it.
Aside from the real world tragedy of the fire I would find it very funny if the General Sherman tree was consumed by fire.
Just call it Georgia’s revenge.
