1989 was a long time ago. Unless you’re in 50s or older, you probably don’t know what it was like when AIDS first came on the scene....Let me fill you in. It was, for a while, terrifying. Nobody understood anything about the virus (HIV) that appears to cause AIDS (or at least be associated with it).

What's the hardest part of having AIDS? Trying to convince your parents that you're Haitian.

I had a friend back then that had just started a nursing career and worked on an HIV unit. There was one patient that had cut themselves and ran thru the halls flinging blood on everyone on purpose.
