A friend of mine had a massive brain aneurysm and was in the ICU for weeks. With one of the medications he would start having difficulty breathing, nearly going into respiratory arrest within 10-20 minutes of it being administered. Despite his pleas the doctors assured him there was no connection between the drug and his symptoms and there was no scientific mechanism of how that medication would do such a thing. It was only after multiple episodes that his attending physician finally ordered the medication stopped.
