Not enough of them.
At one time in my career I managed staffing for call centers that were taking more than 100,000 calls per day. We staffed to meet some basic service levels.
If we lost 10% of our staff, our system would be immediately overloaded, delay times would move from a couple of minutes to hours, and our ability to maintain staff would be compromised. Getting replacements for those people would take months.
Think about everything the government touches through direct hires or through contractors. If they lose 10% of their staff, the efficiency of those offices, companies, and manufacturing will shut down lines, increase unemployment, and send the country into a significant recession.
Remember that every dollar the government spends is multiplied in the economy.
Biden thinks this is going to make him look tough. It could potentially lead to an economic disaster.
Medical personnel (especially women) will be heading for the exits...chaos will reign everywhere!
I’m sure your experience has merit. I don’t think private sector call centers and the nature of their immediate accountability to the market compares to government sector union jobs. I’m bet the state department is worse than the DMV as an example.
