Coolidge, Reagan and then Trump, IMO, are the only three in the last 100 years to do so. Between Coolidge and Reagan, we had a 50 year gap. Between Reagan and Trump, 28 years. At best they were able to halt the march leftward while in office.
But as soon as they were out, that march immediately resumed and usually accelerated. We can’t afford these types of gaps anymore. Time is running out on the Republic; the patient is in critical condition.

***I believe our republic suffered a fatal blow when SCOTUS refused to do their job in Berg vs. Obama, ushering in an official oligarchy when they said NO ONE had standing. Since that time, these have been the death throes of our fatally wounded democracy.
