In the past day or so I’ve seen several compilations of announcements of “after a short illness” regarding people who’ve died.

Learn that term. It’s yet another propaganda phrase, like “vaccine hesitancy” or “horse deworming paste,” and many more. The original phrases were “number of cases” and “two weeks to flatten the curve.”
