That lesson by Carl Sagan is very meaningful to me today. Yesterday, I played golf with a woman and we stayed on the patio to socialize after the round. She’s a former RCMP officer and our foursome was talking about human trafficking and she stated that those who began to be trafficked between 12-14 years old could often be healed physically, but were never the same mentally, and they frequently never fully came to see their trafficker as evil.
Conversation rolled around to covid and the delta variant and she asserted that delta was extremely dangerous and even more dangerous variants were to come. I offered that vaccinating during an epidemic was creating the variants and was a terrible idea long accepted as terrible in medicine. She listed all of the government’s awful and unproductive measures that we should continue to follow to remain safe from covid and it occurred to me that, when it comes to covid, she’s behaving similar to the trafficked children she spoke of.
She made up her mind about covid when she was most frightened and cannot see the government as anything but benevolent and protective. To me, she has the same perspective about our fascist governments as she stated the child who was trafficked does about her trafficker. You have no idea how hard it was for me to remain silent about that observation for the sake of club harmony. She’s also already jabbed, so what would be the point? If the scientists asserting that the jabs are going to kill people in 1-3 years are correct, her perspective will be irrelevant in the not-too-distant future.
