A plane crashed into a building in Connecticut, authorities said Thursday

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) told The Hill in a statement that a Cessna Citation 560X business jet crashed at around 10 a.m. local time into a building on Hyde Road in Farmington, Conn. around 10 a.m. local time.

The plane departed from Robertson Field Airport in Plainville, Conn., and was headed to Dare County Regional Airport in Manteo, N.C. The agency said four people were aboard.

If she has the one described, she must be doing fairly well for herself...

She and her husband...

Yeah. They flew the whole family to Cabo in it and it was a lot of fun. It’s a jet. But this was 11 years ago. They live in Montana and I moved from Seattle to Kentucky so we haven’t flown with them since, though some of our other family members have.

But yeah, they have a couple of 100’+ yachts (one in Seattle and one in Mexico). I use them as an example of how rich people are not evil people. They employ a LOT of people to maintain their properties and the captain on one of their boats earns a solid six figure income. They are also strong Christians and live it in spades.

I think they sold the Mexico boat and are selling their house down there too. They are in their late 60’s and are “downsizing”.

Right and the Citation X ( no longer in production ) is the fastest business jet that ever existed. Awesome planes.

It is bigger but still rather small. It’s very compact inside, can barely move around. But those business jets are rated for 40K feet altitude.

This is similar to what I thought had happened in NYC when I was driving back from a meeting on the morning of 9/11/01.

WRONG!!!!

But once I leaned what really happened, I knew it was terrorism!!!! But the news commentators took a lot longer to come to that conclusion!!!!

I remember the initial CNN reports started it was a Cessna that hit the World Trade Center.

The plane impacted the ground first, and then struck the building.

Were there survivors?

I had forgotten, there was an airport right in that immediate area so they must have tried to maybe turn around and lost power. I’d have to look at a map of the area again, it’s been 20 years since I work there

It would have helped to include that the plane crashed off the end of the runway on takeoff, early in the story.

Its in there, just buried so the headline readers can spread rumors.

nothing is buried. Second sentence - took off from Plainsville, crashed Farmington. There is nothing in the story about crashing at the end of a runway.

I used to work right across the street from that building and there is no Runway near there

Officials said early indications were there was a mechanical failure when the plane took off from Robertson Airport, feet from where the plane went down

About 1500 feet to be exact.

See post 3 for details about the location.

Officials said early indications were there was a mechanical failure when the plane took off from Robertson Airport, feet from where the plane went down and hit the Trumpf Inc. building.

The runway for Robertson Airport, a small private airfield, sits about 1,500 feet from where the plane had crashed.

OK I should have said buried in the treads of the post, not the story.

Weather related? Probably rather gusty west to northwest winds and a fast change in wind direction above the surface, not wind shear per se but difficult flying conditions for a small plane in a generally hilly sort of region.

The Runway at this Airport is only 3600 feet.I just wonder if the plane couldn’t get enough thrust to gain altitude from that runway.

I guess we’ll soon see. After all the plane went down and crashed into a building only 2 tenths of a mile from the runway.

My sister has a citation. It’s not a commercial airliner, but it’s not a piper cub either. It’s a fairly significant piece of machinery.

I also have a citation...for doing 80 in a 65 and making an unsafe lane change.

I kept my Cessna 182Q there in the late 80’s. Have to admit, the worst takeoff experience we ever had was on that flight path. There was a crosswind that became severe once we were 100 feet up, going north like this jet. It was close to being uncontrollable.
