What a coincidence - that is *exactly* what it says on the redcross website, but then again some guy on the internet says you can’t give blood, so you must be lying </sarc>
I prefer to think of this as an honest misunderstanding of the difference between conventional whole-blood donations which everyone is familiar with, and the more specialized convalescent plasma donations.
People are being fed so many lies that it’s like picking the fly poop out of the pepper to get at something approximating the truth.
