My tiny 45 pounder is extremely protective. I have to touch a stranger for her to be ok with them.
45lbs is not tiny lol. Dogs have incredible loyalty and protective instincts. They are also so loving and gentle with their pack.
They take their cues from us so I’m not surprised you have to show that someone is ok to your dog before letting them in your space.
