They definitely need socialization and training. I did sports with my dogs. I have done tracking, at which GSD’s excel. It’s an activity where you must trust your dog. It is the dog who knows where the track is, and how to find the scent if the winds blow it off the actual track. My dog loved getting out in the fields, following a scent. So did I for that matter. We did other things too, but the main thing she wanted was to get out with me, without having to share her person with the other dogs.

Since we're in festival, I don't think anyone will object to the dog conversation, lol. Oliver has been my constant companion since the start of the plandemic. He and I would drive for hours stopping any place that looked interesting. Thankfully, gas was cheap back then. He gets obsessed with a smell and would stay sniffing in one spot for as long as I let him. Sometimes I had to drag him away. As great as his nose is, his ears are even better. No matter how quietly I get into the pantry, and no matter where he is, outside or inside, he knows. He could be in a sound sleep and if I pick up my keys, he's at the front door in seconds. Honestly, he should have been a police or rescue dog but he's too big.
