No surprise. Britain claimed it and used it as a penal colony; it was an island prison before, and will be again. The Commonwealth is ruthless. Britain also developed the first concentration camps (Boer War). Don't forget the various Clearances, too. It is all about trade and wealth to this Empire, and they will starve their own every bit as quickly as they will eliminate others.
It may be fashionable to blame the French and the Germans for the mess they make of the world, but Britain has always bought the best post-1917 media that wasn't already in thrall with Moscow, and Jolly Old England ain't so jolly.

Never confuse the British Empire with the English people. Nor the American Empire with ordinary US American folks for that matter. (the people have no say).
