I’ve noticed for many years, among a certain segment of the blacks, to pronounce “community” as something that sounds like “commurnity”. And that’s what they’re calling this vax. chilling.
I think it is a physiological trait. Words like Buick would be pronounced “Burk” or Van Buren would come out as “Van Burn” and I’ve heard the commurnity one a million times too. And it wasn’t a few isolated incidents it was a majority in my experience, it is just how they speak. This was witnessed working in a low income neighborhood for twenty seven years. I think a speech therapist could probably explain why.
