Jewel was a champion show dog (I consider her a rescue) who was groomed every week. Zeus came to me as a puppy so he wasn’t groomed like Jewel was. I refer to him as my swamp dog because he’s never been near a smelly swamp that he didn’t love to jump into. When he gets a bath after one of those swamp adventures, his eyes throw daggers at me for bathing him and he ignores me for at least an hour. Jewel doesn’t mind a home bath.
But when I take them to the groomer, Jewel hides under the car seat and Zeus throws himself at the groomer’s door to get in. If you know what makes them behave opposite to their home experiences, I’d love to hear it. Aside from their schizoid bathing behaviours, they’re the sweetest-natured little creatures.

I am useless at helping people help their dogs at the groomers. Sometimes I think there’s a personality clash, sometimes I just think it’s how the dog is wired.
Like my sister HATES and I mean despises having anyone give her a pedicure. If she were a dog she’d bite hahahahahaha.
My own sweet Oliver has hated baths since the day I got him at 8 weeks. And I give my dogs a bath weekly and do their nails. Gunner, yellow arm breaking Lab, never had a bath until I got him. He’s a star in the tub and on the table. I have to put a sling on Oliver and hang him from the table so he won’t fight for his nails. (Oliver is 45 lbs lol). It takes both hubby and I to do it. And I give him a Frosty Paw to lick while I’m apparently torturing him for 3 min.
And he loves our older son but is terrified of our younger son??? I gave Oliver some CBD chews today and he was aggressive to the point of snapping. So, that didn’t work.
I tried almost everything with dogs when I groomed. DAP sprays and diffusers. Lavender, calming diffusing oils. I read books on behavior, I gave treats, smeared peanut butter on the grooming arm lol.. some dogs just hate it. Some really aggressive dogs I would suggest a visit to the vet, especially if they were masters at getting a muzzle off.
It’s hard not to take it personally (which sounds weird). Like the owners going “why is my dog terrified of you?” And the groomer’s going.. “Why does this dog hate me??”
