Someone was asking about generators.

We have this one, a Duromax Sidekick 2000

https://www.duromaxpower.com/products/duromax-xp2000eh-2000-watt-dual-fuel-digital-inverter-hybrid-portable-generator

It’s listed as unavailable at the moment, but it’s a great little inverter/generator and it’s portable. I can even pick it up for short distances.

There may be something else out there similar. I don’t know, but this is just for people’s information.

For china brands, which is most, even a lot of Generacs, Champion is pretty good. They hang a tag with a big 1-800 number on them and from what I’ve heard, they’re pretty responsive when you call. Most china brand stuff, you don’t even get a phone number. Champion seems to be trying to build up a good name.

They’re quiet and reliable for china stuff. Of course Honda made in Japan is better but also 3-4 times the price.

That Duromax is one of many copies of Honda’s quiet inverter generator series. Used to be EU2000i or something but now it’s E*2000 as they update models. At any rate, quiet inverter gennies, safe for electronics at about 2,000 watts.

Here’s Champion’s lineup, https://www.championpowerequipment.com/products/generators/portable-generators/?fwp_portable_generator_filter_inverter=traditional%2Copen-frame

Looks like Duromax and Champion get about the same reviews on amazon. Both have 3 yr warranty but that means shipping it in for repair. I don’t think there’s much for patent laws in China, India etc and they’re all just Honda copies but with lower quality standards. $1200 for a Honda or $400 for an off name. Finding a decent used Honda would be the best bet but they’re far and few between.

I’ve got a generator for short term. For long term, getting a gennie that will run on propane and getting a 500-1000 gallon tank of propane, if it’s in your budget, would be the thing to do, along with stocking up on spark plugs, motor oil and air cleaners.

Not in our budget and even if it was, we’d probably be the only person in miles with a generator still running after months and they’re not silent. That would just make someone want to kill us and take over our place.

Likewise, long term, if everyone else is getting skinny and you’re not, they’re going to know you have plenty to eat. Target. At least buy some clothes that are too big for you so you kinda look like you’re losing weight like everyone else. You’re apt to lose weight anyway because living off grid is a lot of work. btdt

That’s where being a part of a prepper community comes in. 20-30 people can defend a generator and food. One person or a small family, not so much. I know of a “survivalist” community near me and I guess it’s time to introduce myself and see if we’ll fit in. I put survivalist in quotes because that’s what someone here called them. I think it’s a prepper community but after the shtf, they’re one in the same I suppose. I just think of survivalist as someone subsisting in the woods with only what they can carry.

In that case, one could go from prepper to survivalist once they get driven from their home. That’s where I separate definitions between the two.

We do have a brand new generator and propane tank that is full.

It’s pretty quite as generators go and here in NH generators are very common. You find that out when a nor’easter knocks out power.

When we were house hunting, we saw many listings that showed both the regular electrical panel, and the backup generator hook up panel.

We are pretty far out and it’s fairly remote, so I would not expect too many people to find us, although I know is all it takes is one.

If the SHTF, I am sure that the people on our road would band together.

Good idea on the oversized clothes.

People who meet you wouldn’t know what size you started at.

I grew up in Mass and my parents loved the White Mountains. Even honeymooned up there. I’ve got the White Mountains brochure from 1941 that they saved as a souvenir. Got it along with all the family pics after my dad died. We have or at least had family in Maine too. My niece, who’s the same age as me, recently moved from Mass to NH.

No way to know the future but all it takes is a few guys who’s kids are starving to cause problems. Good people won’t be so good when they get real hungry. Anyone who didn’t see it coming at all, will lose their mind a bit. Sound can really travel depending on the wind. If I had a set up like yours, I’d use it but sparingly.

Of course things may never get that bad.
