While I’m firmly pro-vax, I also believe that in a free society no one should be forced to.
The freedom to make dumb decisions is part of being free. It may be sensible to wear a seatbelt, but the state shouldn’t force you to. Same with saving for retirement. If you make the decision not to do so, the government shouldn’t bail you out.
What is interesting is that the government forced the auto makers to install safety devices — lap belts, shoulder belts, two independent braking systems, collapsible steering columns, padded dashboards, sidebars in doors, airbags and many others. While I detest the government daily meddling in our lives, these were good changes. We would have none of these features today if the government had not stepped in.
The problem is lack of any limits on government and it’s inability to differentiate between good governance and bad governance.
