Why doesn’t he just go for it and say the variants will have a viral load a gazillion times more than the original.

BUT WE DON’T BELIEVE THEM ANY MORE!
The “unvaccinated are causing the mutations” narrative is polling poorly. Antibody Dependent Enhancement (ADE) is what’s causing these variants. Blaming the variants is the easy way out.
